The Wye Valley

One of the most beautiful and historic parts of the UK, The River Wye runs for 250km/155m from the mid-Wales mountains to the Severn Estuary at Chepstow via five UK counties including Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire. Besides its spectacular scenery, the Wye Valley offers a host of tourist attractions and activities including historic & ancient monuments, castles, crafts, pubs, restaurants, farms, wild-life & nature, theme parks, zoos, outdoor activities & sports and much more. Outdoor Activities & Sports

Walking, there are walks for all ability levels and duration through some of the most picturesque scenery in the UK including the famous 150 mile "Wye Valley Walk".
Cycling, as well as montain-biking parks with down-hilling etc., there are plenty of tracks and trails for off-road cycling, one of the best ways to see the area.
Fishing, the River Wye is renowned for the best salmon fishing outside Scotland, and offers excellent course and game fishing.
Birdspotting, Peregrine Falcons can be seen around Symonds Yat and of course water birds abound along the Wye River.
Canoeing, potholing, horse riding, clay-pidgeon-shooting, and golf are amongst many other activities available in the area.

Throughout the year, the Wye Valley area is host to numerous live music festivals featuring a wide variety of music styles including rock, blues, folk, country, classical and chamber music. There are also a multitude of live music venues from local pubs to theatres. As well as music The Wye Valley offers theatres, cinemas and art & photography galleries in many towns in the area.

History

The Wye Valley has a long and rich history ranging from ancient times to recent. Ancient monuments, Roman ruins, castles, battle re-enactments, architecture, medieval fairs, churches, industry and more all feature in the area. There are numerous sites of interest and many museums dedicated to the area's rich history.
